Last year, Vietnam surpassed Bangladesh in global garment exports. However, in the first half of this year, Bangladesh has gone ahead again.
In the seven months from January to July, Bangladesh exported more garments worth 193 crores 69 lakh dollars than Vietnam, according to the BGMEA.
According to the BGMEA authorities, Bangladesh exported garments worth 1 thousand 879 crores dollars in the seven months from January to July this year. At the same time, Vietnam exported garments worth 1 thousand 686 crores dollars.
BGMEA Director Mohiuddin Rubel said, “According to official data from Bangladesh and Vietnam, Bangladesh is clearly ahead of Vietnam in garment exports in the first seven months of this year.”Apart from that, the Vietnamese government publishes garment exports together with garments. As a result, we can say with confidence that Bangladesh will regain the second top position in garment exports this year.
Last July, the World Trade Organization (WTO) World Trade Statistics Review 2021 report was released. It shows that in 2020, Vietnam exported garments worth 2 thousand 900 million dollars. And Bangladesh has exported clothes worth 2 thousand 800 crore dollars. But in the previous year, the export of Bangladesh was 3 thousand 400 million dollars. At that time, Vietnam’s exports were 3 thousand 100 million dollars.
According to the WTO reports, by 2020, China has exported the most garments worth 14 thousand 200 million dollars.
BGMEA vice-president Shahidullah Azim told on Sunday, “Our expectation is that Bangladesh will export about 400 million more garments this year than Vietnam.” Because the factories have enough orders. At the beginning of the year, exports to EU countries were slightly lower. However, exports have started to increase there as well.
